SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring made a donation of 37 cases of canned goods to The Greater Chicago Food Depository through the Defeat HungerSM campaign, hosted by the Food Processing Supplier Association (FPSA) and The Foundation of FPSA. The foundation will be contributing $75,000 in order to aid the general operations of the depository and a food drive will be held at the Process Expo 2013 November 3-6, 2013 at the McCormick Place in Chicago.
Each exhibitor is encouraged to donate one case of food per 1,000 square feet of exhibit space reserved. A virtual food drive is also available at www.fpsa.org; donations can be made by clicking on the Defeat HungerSM button, and selecting from a grocery list that includes canned beans, canned fruit, canned pasta, canned vegetables, chili, soup, stew and tuna.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository is a nonprofit food distribution and training center that strives to end hunger in the Chicago community. The Food Depository distributes food (both donated and purchased) to 678,000 adults and children every year. Last year, 66 million pounds of food were distributed among associated shelters and soup kitchens; the equivalent of 150,000 meals per day.
In 2013, statistics show 1 in 6 individuals are food insecure in Cook County (where the Greater Food Depository is located). Hunger is a major problem and exists in every county of the United States. In 2012, 16.7 million children lived in food insecure households and an average of 22 million children received free or reduced price lunch at school.
