Naval Training Station Implements SlipNOT® Technology

January 10, 2007

The year 2007 will bring high tech, life-like simulations to Navy recruits for their final stage of testing at the Navy’s Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, IL. This new facility determines whether recruits will complete boot camp and the sailorization process. Full use of this training command is scheduled for June of 2007.

The facility holds an impressive scaled-down replica of the Arleigh Burke guided missile destroyer standing 210 ft. long and 60 ft. high. The mock destroyer named USS Trayer offers 17 different scenarios based on actual emergency situations taken from past Navy incidences. These realistic simulations, in a controlled environment, help determine if recruits are equipped with the proper skills needed to become sailors.

One scenario comes from the historical crisis situation that involved a deck fire on the USS Forrestal. Brian Anson, Project Manager of James McHugh Construction, based in Chicago, explains, “This scenario has a 6 ft. x 6 ft. fire that recruits have to put out with water. We used SlipNOT® stainless steel grating for the flooring because of its slip resistance qualities.” Safety precautions are an important element of the USS Trayer; the Navy wants to test its recruits with life-like simulations but does not want them injured during the process.

SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring manufactures slip resistant metal flooring products that perform extremely well in wet and oily conditions. SlipNOT® has a bond strength of over 4,000 psi with a file hardness of over 55 on the Rockwell ‘C’ scale. In fact, SlipNOT® galvanized steel grating is also used in the ammo room simulation in which recruits have to move ammo from one room to another while water is filling the room.

Christina Molnar Metrose, Vice President of SlipNOT® Metal Safety Flooring remarks, “We are honored to be involved in a project which helps our service men and women do their jobs more productively. As I was informed when visiting the site, every second counts in critical situations.”

Not only has the military utilized SlipNOT®, but a diverse array of industries have employed SlipNOT® slip resistant flooring safety products to minimize corporate liabilities.

SlipNOT® customers range from utility companies, gas and oil companies, to automotive facilities, manufacturing facilities and municipalities. SlipNOT® provides protection from slip and falls no matter the conditions. For more information on SlipNOT® visit their website at https://slipnot.com.
