ASSE Standard Revision

In December 2012 a new version of ASSE Standard ANSI/ASSE A1264.2 the “Standard for the Provision of Slip Resistance on Walking/Working Surfaces” was approved by ANSI.  This standard is meant to protect persons where there is a potential for slip and falls as a result of a surface characteristic or condition.  It is intended to apply to employees in a workplace situation not in construction, marine docks, residential or floating roof tank situations.

The three main areas addressed in the standard are provisions for reducing hazards, test procedures and equipment, and slip resistant guidelines.  In order to provide the most state of the art version, the ANSI gave more specific guidance in the area of testing and procedures in order to keep up with advancements in science.

The standard specifically addresses these major factors that cause slip and fall accidents when traction changes: floor surface characteristics affecting slip resistance, footwear traction properties, and environmental factors.

Ordering the entire standard will give you the important specifics and changes necessary for your facility.  One ASSE professional stated that the changes are a “7” on a “scale of 1-10.” A tech brief was also written for reference.

SLIPNOT products help diminish the possibility of slip and fall accidents in the workplace.  The high traction metal flooring products are fully customizable and can be used in every industry.  SLIPNOT products exceed all slip resistant standards set by agencies such as OSHA, ASSE, ANSI and NFPA.

Information for this blog came from the tech brief.
