Preventing Slips and Falls on Aluminum Tread Plate

Slip and fall accidents occur on a daily basis.  A few places they may occur are on trucks with aluminum tread plate installed on the walking and working surface, on ladder rungs, and on slick flooring areas in manufacturing plant, among others.  Preventing these accidents can be done with a few simple precautions.  According to “The Guide to Prevent Slips, Trips and Falls”, published by the Australian Government, some of the most common hazards for slips and falls are:

  • A slippery floor surface (smooth plate, aluminum tread plate and other forms of checker or tread plate)
  • Spills and liquids on the floor, such as ink around a printing press, juices from a food processing plant or oil in an automotive facility
  • Changing from one flooring surface to another (walking from concrete outside to marble inside, slick aluminum tread plates on a catwalk to stairs)
  • On a descending surface, such as a ramp

Installing slip resistant materials help reduce slip and falls accidents in any public environment.  Aluminum tread plates are offered as one solution to slick environments.  What many people don’t realize is aluminum tread plates can become slippery themselves and lead to slip and fall accidents.  They can also be worn down to smooth plate with constant contact, creating another potentially hazardous situation.

SLIPNOT Metal Safety Flooring manufactures slip resistant products that can replace other taped on or painted on slip resistant materials that wear thin or flake off.  Floor plates, grating and ladder rungs are just a few of the products that can be coated in the slip resistant metal surface.  The SLIPNOT coating creates a 100% slip resistant surface in all directions.
