New York Fire Department Utilized SlipNOT® Stainless Steel Stair Treads

The Situation:

The New York Fire Department (FDNY) is known for its unwavering bravery, core values and remarkable service to the citizens of New York, NY. Engine Company 259 was designed for efficiency by Andrew Berman Architects. The three story fire station was in need of slip resistant stairs and platforms throughout the facility. When there is an emergency the firefighters and other personnel needed traction when running up or down the stairs. Often times water, snow and other liquids are dragged into the department and can cause a slippery situation. Safety is a top priority for the FDNY, whether it is inside the station or out in the field.

The Solution:

SlipNOT® provided custom Grade 2 stainless steel plate stair treads that were fabricated to very detailed prints. SlipNOT® was able to meet the thorough requirements of the project and supplied stair treads in various sizes and shapes for various areas throughout the facility. The stainless steel plate stair treads were the optimal solution for the application because they provided the traction and safety needed for the firefighters during emergencies as well as the aesthetically pleasing look the architect was seeking for the project. SlipNOT® stainless steel stair treads can also be easily cleaned which is ideal when dealing with snow, dirt, ash and other elements from the firefighters’ equipment on the stair treads.

The Impact:

SlipNOT® stainless steel stairs provide a slip resistant walking surface for firefighters, paramedics and other personnel when accessing different areas. Timing is everything in the emergency field, every second counts, traction on stairs and other walking surfaces is critical.
