SlipNOT Stainless Steel Flooring Products Installed throughout Liberty Park

The Situation

Liberty Park overlooks the September 11th Memorial & Museum and sits 25-feet above the World Trade Center’s vehicle security center. The one-acre park was modeled after Manhattan’s elevated High Line Park – abandoned railroad tracks that were transformed into one of the world’s most visited green spaces. The 50 million dollar rebuild began in 2013 and opened on June 29, 2016. It includes a vertical garden façade with 22,356 different plants, “The Sphere” which was recovered from the rubble of the Twin Towers, and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, which was destroyed in the attack and rebuilt by Santiago Calatrava.

Before the park could officially open, there were finishing touches that had to be made. A construction company in Long Island City contacted SlipNOT® for multiple non-slip stainless steel applications.

The Solution

After reviewing specifications, SlipNOT® applied their Grade 2 stainless steel coating to multiple tree grates, access hatches, grating trench drains, and stair nosings. The stainless steel not only contributed to the overall aesthetics, but also gave pedestrians a durable and high traction walking surface in all seasons.

Liberty Park isn’t the only New York site that has utilized SlipNOT®. SlipNOT®’s stainless steel products are also installed throughout the High Line, Lincoln Center, Stuyvesant High School in Battery Park, and Times Square.

The Impact

“For almost 10 years, the hulking shell of the former Deutsche Bank building stood where the park now sits, serving as a haunting reminder of the terror attacks, WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported.”

The completion of Liberty Park represents re-growth in New York City and gives locals and tourists a peaceful place to gather and remember those who were impacted. The park has a capacity of 750 people, and due to the high foot traffic, SlipNOT® was the ultimate solution for pedestrian safety.
