Slip Resistant Stair Platform for Personnel in Boeing Facility

Stair Platform
  • The Situation:

Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace company and largest manufacturer of commercial airplanes and defense, space and security systems with numerous products such as military aircraft, satellites, weapons and communication systems. Boeing employs over 170,000 people across the United States and in 70 countries. Boeing’s customers vary throughout 150 countries.

Boeing’s Seattle, WA facility needed a slip resistant coating for their staircase platform which is used to help employees safely climb over window beams while performing aircraft on ground (AOG) repairs. Boeing reached out to a sales representative at SLIPNOT Metal Safety Flooring right away since they have worked with SLIPNOT in the past.

  • The Solution:

SLIPNOT provided Boeing with four customer supplied Grade 2 stainless steel on aluminum stair treads that were 1/8” x 8” x 14” with 1-1/4” nosing, 3-1/2” riser and four countersunk holes for installation. Boeing prefers SLIPNOT’s stainless steel on aluminum finish due to the lightweight and chemical and corrosion resistant properties.

In the past, SLIPNOT has installed their non slip coating on steel trench cover plates for Boeing’s flight line in North Charleston, SC as well as slip resistant stainless steel on aluminum stair treads for Boeing’s Auburn, WA facility where employees perform repairs on multiple planes.

  • The Impact:

Boeing’s new stair platform provided a high traction surface for employees who were making repairs on aircraft. By installing stainless steel on aluminum stair treads, employees were able to move the platform around with ease due to the lightweight aluminum alloy. In addition, the stainless steel coating is resistant to any chemicals, coolants or fluids from aircraft maintenance.
